Military Families Center: ACC Business

Project Created: 2025

Military Families Center is an organization that supports the needs of military families. While Austin TX, doesn’t have a military base; At Austin Community College, they help out military members across Central Texas by providing resources, education, workshops, etc. They also help military members adjust to their new environment in Austin after relocation.


Our Mission

For this project, we were given a business that needed a full rebrand, and Vanessa Errico is our client, who’s the manager of Military Families Center. We were a group of 6 skilled artists, and we were in charge of creating a logo, and a lot of table materials. This project took about 3-4 months to start and finish, and I think we did amazing. I was in charge of creating the mockup assets such as business cards, T-Shirts, Tote Bags, etc.

Project Objectives

  • Redesign original logo

The Challenge

One of the challenges we faced at first was figuring out the type of rebrand our client wanted. What we got from Vanessa was they wanted something that doesn’t focus a lot on the military side, but more on a trendy aesthetic. Although it took a bit of time to brainstorm ideas for a logo, we eventually landed on the final design, and She loved it.


Target Audience

Anyone who is 18+, who is associated with the military such as veterans, active duty members, gold star families, caregivers, etc. An audience who looks into programs that support the “whole soldier” in need of help with solvable solutions.


Moodboard

Formal and Trendy

For this mood board, I added in images that had both a military fit for the organization, and also a trendy a bright vibe that Vanessa was looking for. For the color palette I also made a mix of both sides of the mood board, so there’s a variety of different colors. With the font choices I chose things that felt trendy, and would make sense for the deliverables, but they weren’t used in the end.

Logo Process

Final Sketches

These sketches were the ones I decided to go with because I didn’t have that military feel to it, and the design could look modern and trendy if done right. The sketches are supposed to represent a dandelion flower, but with the pedals being people holding hands to represent a community of people together, which fits the name “Military Families Center”. For the middle of the dandelion, I wasn’t sure on what to add to it, whether it’s a logo of some sort, or just leaving it blank.

Logo Drafts

These were the initial designs I came up with. The one thing that I didn't like as much from the 3 were that they had too much detail, and a logo shouldn’t have a lot of detail, because it would become unrecognizable with the sizing proportions. Another flaw I noticed was I should have created different shapes for a logo, instead of using strokes to outline the entire logo. I decided I was going for the right one, because it was the most simplistic, and I can rework some of the shapes easily.

Final Logo

After fixing up the logo, I came up with this design. It still uses some of the key components that made the original design original such as the people holding hands, and the dandelion in the middle. Then for the text, We decided on a stacked text logo, so it fits well on anything. while a horizontal text logo could work for other deliverables, we decided thatt this logo works well with many of our deliverables we created as a team.

Logo Colorizations

These Logos were created to use on different deliverables that may need them such as T-shirts, Stickers, Pin Buttons, Etc. These logos are also to see what colors work out with the background, and what colors might need some tweaking, so they don’t blend in as much, and should stick out more.

Reflection

After working on this project in a team of 6, and finished all of the deliverables Vanessa wanted; I’d say it was a fun experience to be apart of. I learned a lot from working as a team, and more information about preflighting which is important when delivering files to a client. This project helped me a lot when creating logos, because I wasn’t used to creating logos, but after creating the final logo, that opened a gateway to fix all of the other logos from the projects shown in this portfolio. The project did start of slow at first, when we were creating the logo, but after we got the green light, we started creating the deliverables.
